Editing Decision Activity

An innocent character is stalked by a werewolf
 I would use both slow and fast edits, first I would use fast edits to show the panic that the character is feeling. The edits would continue to be fast until a moment when the character believes they are safe, then a fast edit of the werewolf attacking the characters.

A character confesses their horrific crime to someone
 I would use slow edits of the character circling the other person who is bound. The shots would be switched between both the victim and the attacker and would have fast edits of flash backs to the murders with the screams sounding in each flash back.

Two teams compete in the finals of a street dance competiton
 It would be fast edits switching between the teams and their members to keep up with the fast pace of a competition.

A high speed car chase ends in tragedy
The edits for this scene would be fast paced to show the adrenalin rush that one would get from the situation. The tragedy would be a car crash and that would be a slow motion of the two cars colliding and the crushing of the metal.

Brazil

The short clip of the film Brazil that we viewed showed two different sides to the character.
In the first scene, the main character is flying through the clouds with man made wings connected to a suit of armour. In this part of the clip, the lighting is soft, and warm, giving the feeling of freedom. Also the light seems to come from behind the character, giving off the impression that this character is powerful.
The camera is always on a low angle,  when the character is in view and also gives off the impression of power.
The music in the scene is calm and dreamy, that and the clouds give of the impression that the character isn't in the real world. As does his make up, as it is in a strange pattern down his face.

In the second scene of the clip, the character gets woken up by the ringing of his phone, and as the 'electrics' are playing up, he believes that he it is night until he taps the clock a few times. This gives off the impression that the main character is still out of it, as he doesn't realise the light streaming through the cracks in the blinds.
The the characters bedroom is quite bland and small, and there are chords hanging out of the phone left, right and centre. This makes the character seem stressed and lonely as there is only room for one and everything is cluttered.
The household appliances seem to be made so that you can't do things yourself, like someone is trying to make the human race lazy. Unfortunately said appliances don't seem to work properly as when the coffee machine messes up and pours coffee on the characters toast, he seems tired, as if this happens all the time, giving a hint as to how this new world is.

HOMEWORK

Image 1
This image is an extreme close up. It uses the rule of thirds and the golden triangle which directs your eye to the surname 'Buttle'. The photographer has blurred out parts of the image to make 'Buttle' a focal point. Also, They have put the stamp 'Dept. of RECORDS' in the bottom left corner to bring your attention what the document is. Also the object is mainly to the left and the photographer has left some negative space on the right.

Image 2
This image draws your attention to the people in the top left corner. The lines created by the hallway form leading lines that lead you to these people.The leading line is important as is causes you to look at other parts of the image other than the people.

Image 3
This image uses the rule of thirds and draws your attention to both the mans face in the top right corner and also the name 'M. KURTZMANN' on the door in the bottom left corner. The angle of the camera shows that this character has power as does the light coming from both behind and above the character.

What do you think has happened in the film and why???
I think that the man from the beginning of the film has received a notice of some form and has been called up to and office to deal with it.

The Mad Hatter- Alice in Wonderland

The Mad Hatter is an intriguing character of this clip. His script alone shows that the hatter is quite crazy and that he is keen to see the red queen overthrown by the white queen. But there are many other aspects of this clip that show more to the hatter than what he says.
Lets begin with his costume. Every inch of the hatters clothing has something to so with making hats, from the pins poking out of his hat to his pin cushion ring, all the tools of a hatter are on display.
Then there is how the hatter himself looks. He has very pale skin and different colours surrounding each eye, but that could be considered normal. What is strange are his eyes. They are both a bright, almost neon green that turn a dark orange when he is mad, but there is a subtle hint to his madness in the strange colour. His right eyes contact has been created so that it looks slightly off centre, so that he never appears to be looking directly at something/someone and makes him seem to have a crazed look about him.
But although the hatter seems to have control over his anger, there seems to be a few times when he can't and he is consumed by rage until someone manages to snap him out of it, as seen by when the Cheshire cat says something and the Hatter gets mad and stalks up to him like he is about to attack until the mouse snaps him out of it.
To add to how 'mad' the hatter looks, are his hair and eyebrows. His hair is a bright orange and looks as if the hatter had just been electrocuted, and his eyebrows are long and bushy, poking out everywhere.
These show the mad hatters character himself, but there is something about the setting that shows a part of the character as well.
The Hatter has set up his tea party in front of a broken windmill that is in the middle of a field surrounded by a dark forest.
It's as if he has been waiting for someone to come for a while. The Windmill could be a representation of his past, broken, yet the light is on, like those from his past are beckoning him to come back, but he is too afraid to go back, so he sets up outside, so he can assure himself that its still there, yet he feels its too damaged to invite anyone in.
Then theres the field, this is so that he can see if someone is coming, as he has been in the middle of a surprise attack before and he doesn’t want to have to do it again. He can see when enemies and friends are coming, giving him more time to prepare for anything that may happen.
And last of all, there is the dark forest. It shows that he knows that there is danger lurking in the shadows yet he stays in the light, not yet prepared to face what is going on in the outside world until Alice comes back.
The hatter is stuck between the past and the present, the tea party just being a distraction until Alice comes back so that he can be taken out of this time warp and get over what happened to him, move on and help defeat the red queen.

Morte Et Dabo (Poster 1)

This is the first poster that I have created for my stop motion; 'Morte Et Dabo'. It is a combination of three images from in my film.

Task 4: e-pub, commentary and poster self-reflection and evaluation

Part One: Discuss your feelings about the e-pub, poster and commentary task:
1.    Are you satisfied with the final result?
I am satisfied with the final result of the e-pub, even though I faced a few technical difficulties.
2.    Did the e-pub require more/less time than you originally thought?
It required less time than I originally estimated it would take.
3.    Would like to change any aspects of your final project (layout, links, images, video and audio content, colour scheme etc)?
If I could, I would add a video of each scene in each chapter, but when I was creating the e-pub, ibooks wouldn’t accept the format of the video.
4.    If you could start the project again what would you do differently?
Yes, I would go into more detail.

Part Two: Respond to each of the following dot points (using complete sentences or paragraphs). You should include as much detail as possible in your responses.

1.    Discuss whether your e-pub and poster have turned out the way you pictured them?
The poster turned out how I planned as I hoped for it too look creepy, and as the images wouldn’t originally blend together smoothly, I incorporated shadows to make the poster appear to be one image.
The e-pub worked out well and although I didn’t have the video of each separate scene, I added images of the scenes to the chapters so that the reader would be able to figure out which scene was which.
2.    Explain whether your e-pub and poster clearly depicts the style of your animation and describe some specific design principles that you have used to achieve this;
My e-pub and my poster both show that my animation is a ‘scary’ animation. I wouldn’t call it a horror animation as it isn’t that advanced. To achieve this, I made the poster have a darker lighting and also increased the contrast of the image.
3.    Did you have all of the necessary resources to complete your e-pub and poster or did you have to create new materials?
I didn’t have all of the necessary material needed to create this e-pub. I lost my original usb at the beginning of this term, causing me to lose all planning, then I had problems with a corrupted usb, causing me to lose all work from this term. In the end, I had to get images from the animation by taking screen shots of the scenes.
4.    List the steps you used to plan and develop your project;
I simply planned to split each scene into different chapters, and put the information about the scene into the chapter. I originally planned for all of the chapters to have a video of the scene, but that didn’t work out. After I put the information about the scene, I added an image from the scene and sent it to the back before enlarging the image to the size of the page and changing the opacity to either 70% or 80%, it depended on the image and how the colours clashed with the text.
5.    Clarify any time-management issues you encountered during the creative process and describe the steps you took to improve in this area;
Due to losing all of the data on my usb, I had to start all over again and had a shorter time frame to complete the project in. This caused the whole project to be of a lower standard than originally expected.
6.    Discuss whether you undertook adequate and detailed reflection throughout your project. i.e. Have you provided enough evidence to support your work? (Look back at your blogs and think about whether it looks like a whole terms worth of work);
I have not shown enough reflections or proof of work on my blog this term. This has caused quite a lot of problems for me as I barley posted this term and without back ups, or blog posts, I haven’t been able to do things to the best level.
